THE GATHERING United Methodist Church

We have a website!  Check us out at www.thegatheringumcvb.com

Some people have been wondering what kind of church Rev. Rachel Gilmore is starting and what the relationship is between The Gathering UMC and Courthouse Community UMC.  Courthouse Community UMC had a vision of starting a new faith community for young adults or families in the community who weren’t already active in a church.  CCUMC worked with the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church to bring Rev. Rachel Gilmore in to help carry on this vision.  CCUMC is the “anchor” or “mother” church for The Gathering UMC which is the “new church start” or “daughter” church, therefore CCUMC and The Gathering UMC are related like family members.  The Gathering UMC is grateful for CCUMC’s willingness to share the Family Life Center and other resources with this new, budding congregation and CCUMC is excited about the way that The Gathering UMC is meeting the spiritual needs of young adults/families in the community.  Both churches look forward to working together and being partners in ministry.  Because The Gathering UMC is gearing up for weekly Sunday worship services at 11:15, Rev. Rachel Gilmore will not have the same active presence in CCUMC’s 11:15 service but all are welcome to come and check out this new faith community.

Mom’s Bible Study begins again on Wednesday, January 20th.  This group was formed by Lauren Gryzmalski to help meet the needs of Preschool moms and other stay at home moms in the area.  Rev. Rachel Gilmore will be leading the Bible study this spring and is excited to work with Lauren and this group of young moms.  The Bible Study will be from 9:30-10:30am in the Family Life Center and free childcare is provided.  We are studying the book, The Coffee Mom’s Devotional: A Rich Blend of 30 Brief and Inspiring Devotions, by Celeste Palermo.  Here is an excerpt from the back of the book, “We’ve all done it- relied on a jolt of caffeine to get us through another crazy day of juggling kids, hubby, errands, friends, meetings, laundry… the list goes on and on… Each short, mommy-friendly reading in the devotional is a reminder to drink in the fullness of God, allowing Him to sustain and enrich your life and fill it to overflowing.  Whether you prefer coffee, diet soda, cha tea or Red Bull, there is something better- or rather, Someone better- to quench your thirst for abundant life.”  Copies of the book are available in the church office for $10.  Please contact Stacy Albert, preschool director, or Rachel Gilmore, pastor of The Gathering UMC, for more information or to sign up your infants/toddlers for childcare.  If you would like to come at 9am to walk laps around the Family Life Center before the Bible Study begins, please join us an hour early!
